Szent István Egyetem

Szent István Egyetem or University (SZIU), one of Hungary’s most prominent institutions of higher education, consists of eight different faculties for study and research, hosting approximately 15,000 students. With parts of its history dating back well over two centuries, SZIU blends Hungary’s rich traditions with cutting-edge technology to meet the needs of its students in today’s competitive labour markets. Within the eight campuses, located throughout the country, different degree programmes are offered in a wide variety of subjects ranging from natural and environmental sciences, food engineering, horticulture, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering to business economics, social sciences, architecture and health sciences. Programmes are available at every level from vocational training to PhD.

Among the different faculties of the university, some are located in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, forming the "Buda Campus". This campus was founded in 1853 and has been recognized since its establishment as the only superior institution in Hungary teaching viticulture and oenology. The viticulture department is part of the Faculty of Horticultural Sciences, while the oenology department is part of the Faculty of Food Science. Since the reorganisation of the university as the University of Horticulture and Food Industry in 1986, the Faculty of Food Industry has been the only institution in Hungary offering engineer training for almost every field in the food industry. In 2000 the Faculty of Food Industry became the Faculty of Food Science at Szent István University and it belonged to this organisation for 3 years. From 2003 to 2015 the Faculty was an integral part of Corvinus University of Budapest, to finally reintegrate Szent István University in 2016. Together with the Faculty of Horticultural Sciences and Faculty of Landscape Architecture it makes up the Buda Campus of the University.
