Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza

Founded in Milan in 1921 by Father Agostino Gemelli, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is Europe's most important Catholic university. It is also the only university in Italy with campuses all over the country: in Milan, Piacenza-Cremona, Brescia and Rome. Situated in the heart of Italy's breadbasket, the Piacenza-Cremona Campus includes 3 Faculties (Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences; Education; Economics and Law) and 14 degree programs: 1 single-cycle Undergraduate programs, 7 Undergraduate programs and 6 Graduate programs. Each year, this campus welcomes 2,800 students and 270 professors. The Piacenza-Cremona campus is a well-planned site equipped with state-of-the-art teaching tools and facilities. With its innovative design, the campus provides an atmosphere which encourages dialogue between students and professors, thus creating optimal conditions for learning.

The viticulture departments is part of the Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences faculty. Inaugurated in Piacenza in the 1952-1953 academic year and in Cremona in 1984-1985, the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences offers an outstanding learning environment where students are exposed to increasingly sophisticated technologies. The course offerings are closely related to the demands of the labour market and are focused on internationalisation. It is from this perspective that the faculty offers a Master’s Degree program in Agricultural and Food Economics taught in English, and a new viticulture curriculum as part of the Agricultural Technologies and Sciences course. In addition to its teaching role, the faculty has played an important research role in its history of over sixty years, producing professionals and experts in highly specialised and significant fields of study, including: genetics and food security, crop and animal production, safeguarding dairy products, development of the wine production sector and the agri-food economy, and environment protection.
